Hope Less – Black Metal Obama print by Klutch

January 22nd, 2010 | Category: Art Prints

Not really feeling this one, but its art and Im gonna post it!  From Klutch:

“Already getting mixed reactions to this one. It is not some big statement or an Obama dis. Here is my side:

The whole thing was just a show flyer. I LOVE black metal and have been going through some f**ked mental episodes lately. The Hope poster seemed like a good vehicle for expressing that I personally am not feeling too hopeful these days. Attacking an icon of hope seems perfectly fair and based on the reactionary responses I would say it is necessary.”

Hope Less
10″ x 15″
2 color screenprint
Edition of 200
$20 each

Available at Diesel Fuel Prints.

Arkitip Issue #0051 Featuring Shepard Fairey

June 15th, 2009 | Category: Books

arkitip0051-shepard_fairey-stencil

Pre-order yours at Arkitip:

Shepard Fairey is arguably the most famous artist of the Arkitip alumni group, and could quite possibly be the artist most remembered of his generation. We celebrate Shepard’s methods not only because they are beautiful and effective but also because he took on the mainstream art establishment and after 20 long years, he seems to be winning.

His recent rise to popularity punctuated by his support of the Obama Presidential campaign has made Shepard Fairey a household name. His iconic portrait of Barack Obama has come to symbolize the historic campaign of the first African American to be elected President and now that image graces the National Portrait Gallery at the Smithsonian. He’s an artist who stands by what he believes in and has done more to communicate his causes to the masses than most of his contemporaries, which is admirable on any level. His campaigns have done more to shape the public consciousness than any other artist because you don’t have go to a gallery to see his work, its ubiquity is well established.

This issue will be truly historic, as we celebrate 20 Years of Shepard’s seminal ‘Obey’ campaign. Because Shepard has not been a guest of Arkitip magazine since issue edition No. 0003, this reunion collaboration has been long overdue and is a guaranteed to be another groundbreaking Arkitip classic.

Officially Unofficial Print By Ray Noland

March 02nd, 2009 | Category: Art Prints, political prints

officially_unofficial

Ray Noland is putting together a wonderful collection of art this Spring.  This show will take place at the Chicago Tourism Center April 1st – May 15th, 2009.  Most importantly, there is a print for the show.  “Officially Unofficial” is a very limited, six color screenprint that measures 18 x 24 inches.  These are limited to just 44 and all are signed/numbered by Ray Noland.  You can get these at Go Tell Mama.  Here is some additional info about the show:

Brought to you by CRO in collaboration with The Post Family
Hosted by the Department of Cultural Affairs

April 1st – May 15th, 2009
Chicago Tourism Center, 72 E. Randolph

This exhibit will house a collection of prints, photographs, posters and videos that emerged in 2008 as icons of the art movement supporting Barack Obama. The work will feature a look behind the scenes at Obama HQ as well as independent efforts of designers and artists that converged in a groundswell of inspired work.

The internet was a critical vehicle of grassroots success for both the official and unofficial campaign efforts. This network empowered artists to collaborate and disseminate their work across the country — all of which paralleled the official campaign’s use of email, text messages, and bypassing traditional fund-raising practices with individual online donations.

The show will feature several facets of the visual campaign including Ray Noland’s GoTellMama! poster series and art tour across the U.S., Shepard Fairey’s now iconic Hope poster, the Manifest Hope series, and Sol Sender who developed the campaign’s official logo and branding. The result was a separate but united project that ultimately aided in the successful election to office of Barack Obama.

I was pretty surprised when I was checking out the site Earth Hour and saw the artwork had been done by Shepard Fairey.  How awesome!  I don’t have much information on a  release of this image, but I will keep you all updated.  For now, enjoy the art!

“A host of high profile ambassadors across the world have also lent their support to the campaign, most notably Nobel Peace Prize recipient Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Academy Award-winning actress Cate Blanchett. Shepard Fairey, the artist who created the iconic imagery for Barack Obama in the recent US Presidential Election, has agreed to create artwork for the Earth Hour campaign.”

Barack Obama Artist Shepard Fairey Accused Of Copyright Infringement

February 05th, 2009 | Category: Art Prints, Other, political prints

Obama Poster

I saw a little clip about this on the Today Show this morning.  Apparently AP is accusing Shepard Fairey of using their photograph (which he openly admits) for his most famous iconic image of Barack Obama.  AP is looking for credit and compensation, but Fairey disagrees that they are deserving.

“The Associated Press has determined that the photograph used in the poster is an AP photo and that its use required permission,” the AP’s director of media relations, Paul Colford, said in a statement. “AP safeguards its assets and looks at these events on a case-by-case basis. We have reached out to Mr. Fairey’s attorney and are in discussions. We hope for an amicable solution.”

Congrats TO Barack Obama And Shepard Fairey

December 17th, 2008 | Category: Uncategorized

obama_cover

In one of the craziest elections in American history, he overcame a lack of experience, a funny name, two candidates who are political institutions and the racial divide to become the 44th President of the United States.

Congrats To Barack Obama for being named Time’s Man Of The Year.

Congrats to Shepard Fairey for his work being on the cover of Time Magazine.
