Black Hills – Art Paster By Shepard Fairey
“Black Hills” is a 24 x 36 inch Offset Paster (on thin cream paper). Signed by Shepard Fairey, but not numbered. Only 100 will be available. Proceeds help fund the Pine Ridge Awareness campaign. These will be available on September 4th at a random time during the day (PST) at Obey Giant.
A little more from Shepard Fairey:
“I have been documenting the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation for the past six years. Recently I have realized how inappropriate it is for this project to end with another book or a gallery show.
More than any project I have done in my career, the ever-evolving Pine Ridge project gives voice to social injustice and a forgotten history. I want my work to empower the Lakota and other tribes who fight for recognition of the past in order to help give them a chance to move forward.
Your involvement will help raise the visibility of these images by taking them straight to the public to the sides of busses, subway tunnels, and billboards. I want people to think about prisoner of war camps in America on their commute to work. I want the message to be so loud that it cannot be ignored.” ~Aaron Huey
No commentsPlay With Me – Ahmet Murat Karayilan
Please do not let the name Saatchi throw you. Ahmet Karayilan is A turkish master who’s surreal paintings and mixed media creations harken back to a time when the Surrealists called the ball and every gilded cage across the globe from Baden Baden to Bel Air was not complete until one was captured. Ahmet’s work is timeless and should belong to the people and not a Swiss Bank vault and I go to see that they have it.
“In my paintings, the figures being alone represent the human being’s ‘situation of being on someone’s own’ is the obligatory requirement to comprehend the ‘time’ as pure. To sense the continuousness at any moment, the watch rotor is in the paintings as a symbol of this continuousness. Moreover, I sometimes emphasize on the space and time constant differentness that is drived from this continuousness by the magazine pages on the background. There is/are only right or left eye(s) on the faces but in one side; the (eye) retina is enough for identification after all. Each figure of mine is ‘Dasein’. As Heidegger’s use; it is aware of existing in the time temporarily and feeling its existence. Constantly. While ‘Dasein’ as a reference to the figure’s self awareness, in the paintings awareness leads being realized.”

Arvada – Lindsey Kuhn – Swampco
Is there a cerebral connection somewhere between art and skateboarding? For some people skating is an art, for others art has nothing to do with skating. Then there are those who combine these two things to form a lifestyle.
Lindsey Kuhn has found a way to turn his passions into career, and has been both skating and creating art for over three decades. He was born in Evanston, IL, but grew up on the coast of Mississippi where the now infamous Swamp ramp(s) stood for over ten years. In 1983 he began screen-printing t-shirts primarily to pay for maintenance of the massive ramp. Those simple t-shirts have ballooned into an internationally known company called SWAMP. Today Lindsey is best known for his silk-screened rock posters for hundreds of bands like The Melvins, Tool, Atmosphere, AC/DC and more. Swamp also does custom printing and publishes work for other artists.
Lindsey moved to Austin, TX in 1990 and within a year started printing posters for Southern California’s L’imagerie Gallery. L’imagerie set up a small flat press shop in Austin produce rock posters for Frank Kozik, as well as, Serigraphs for other artists they represented. Such as Robert Crumb, Ed Roth, Robert Williams, Joe Colman, and others. While printing all this great art, Lindsey realized there was a demand for what he had been doing for years and seized the opportunity to learn from these lowbrow masters helping to revive the lost art of the Rock Poster. He has continued to create posters for over 20 years, keeping his D.I.Y. ethic alive by printing his own work as well as other artists from around the world through his print company called SWAMP, which is now located in Denver, CO.
In 1994, Lindsey started making Conspiracy Skateboards because of the lack of big skateboards in the industry at that time. Today, Conspiracy has grown into one of the few truly “independent” skate companies working with artists like Pushead, Stainboy & Angry Blue as well as having some of the best underground riders in the country. In the same year he started, with the help of longtime friend Tim Kerr, Nolie Records which released 19, 7”records & cd’s most of which were local Austin bands including Jack o’ Fire, Jesus Christ Superfly, Lord High Fixers, Fuckemos and Live at Emo’s, volume 2. In 2010 his first book, “Lure of the SWAMP”, was released. It compiled many of his Rock Posters that he made over the years. This year the second edition is out with bonus pages featuring more work up to his 20th Anniversary of making posters.
Lindsey has also done commercial work for X-box, Camel, Oakley, toured with the “Southern Comfort Music Experience”, as well as having art shows in Japan, Europe and all over America.
Lindsey has brought art, music and skateboarding together throughout his life paving the way for others to enjoy and hopefully make connection.

“The physical photo reference I used overtook my imagination and recorded the roundabout real surroundings and human interaction I deal with on the everyday at those moments. I was forced to be as truthful as I can be when I decided Jesus would be in the sky and that fact milked me ’til my teets were tweaked. This piece is the morning or next image after the painting I made “wat’s up twubble?” They were made in unison.” – Matt Gordon

The Charm of Hummingbirds – Originals By Xenz
Location: The Outsiders – London
Dates: Friday 7th of September 2012 to Saturday 6th of October 2012
The Outsiders is pleased to welcome Xenz to Greek Street for his first solo show at the London gallery. The Charm of Hummingbirds focuses on paintings of utopian landscapes and wildlife.
These new works are inspired by a trip to Jamaica’s Montego Bay Bird Sanctury, Xenz says “Feeding Hummingbirds by hand, I was mesmerised by their iridescent feathers and spectacular flying ability …” the works centre around the birds’ beautiful colours and passionate nature.
The Charm of Hummingbirds includes large watercolours on paper, three dimensional Perspex pieces, “geometric” tessellating hexagonal and triangular canvases, as well as a large three panel hand painted dressing screen. And if that isn’t enough, there will also be several prints created by Xenz at our Wapping print studio.
Rapidly evolving street artist Xenz brings his Utopian naturalist paintings to The Outsiders London this
August and September. The ‘Indian Summer’ months provide the ideal climate for his opulent wildlife
works.
With a refreshing lack of hype Xenz has nonetheless become one of the most sought-after artists on The
Outsiders’ roster. An accomplished painter with a background in textile design, his detailed and colourful
works drag decorative art into the 21st century.
As part of Bristol’s TCF graffiti crew, Xenz was one of the first street artists to contrast the natural world
with a post-industrial environment. He has since taken his dreamlike murals around the world creating
outdoor pieces in Ibiza and Gambia plus exhibiting in India and Australia to name but a few of his exotic
contexts.

No commentsInto Oblivion – Orignals By Max Neutra
“These pieces were created during June and July 2012. Each bunny has about two hours worth of work in them, if not more. There are so many different stages of the process! Drawing, cutting, sanding, gesso, paint, finish, hardware, signing. My wife thinks I’m crazy for not charging more. Each bunny is unique and has it’s own personality. After having lived with some around the studio for a while, I can’t help but feel like they are almost pets. Because of the way that some of them can sit, rather than just hang on the wall, combined with the fact that each is a unique shape cut out of wood, there is a sculptural quality to them. They are more than mere paintings. They are objet d’art.” – Max Neutra
“I attempt to get ahead of myself and let the work be the result of a direct feed from my physiological being. Whether it’s a face depicting an emotion, or abstract shapes, I strive for each painting to be like a signature. Quick and messy. Brave and permanent. Unmistakably written by my hand. Produced by the machine that is my body. Instead of toiling over attempted perfection, I indulge in the imperfections of myself and the world around me, and marvel at the inherent factors of chance that the process provides. Through practicing this approach, a stream of surprises emerge and I am in a constant state of discovery.” – Max Neutra
