Archive for December, 2011
This could very easily be my last post of 2011, so I thought I would go out in style with these awesome pieces from Todd Slater. The first piece is for a show that Spoke Art put together focusing on Wes Anderson’s films. Todd’s print features two characters from The Royal Tenenbaums, Raleigh St. Clair and his trusty sidekick Dudley. Raleigh St. Clair measures 18 x 24 inches and is a signed/numbered edition of 150. Also comes in a variant edition. The second print is from a Bill Murray themed show at Gallery 1988 and features Todd’s take on Murray’s character, Bob Harris, from Lost in Translation. This piece measures 18 x 24 inches and is a signed/numbered edition of 125. Both pieces are currently available in Todd’s store.

Derrick Castle just finished up his latest block print. This is an original block print of the Great Stag. In times past, hunters participated in extensive rituals following the death of a big game animal taken while hunting, including a toast to the fallen animal itself. Hunters would give thanks to the Stag, and to God, for the resulting nourishment. Respect for the fallen, and seeking a blessing for the meat, and honoring the death of the Stag, for he died so you may live. Each print measures 10×12 inches. Printed on black card stock with custom mixed water base block inks. Make sure to stop by Derrick’s etsy shop to pick one up.1 comment
The final and most poignant art release from Ben H to mark the end of 2011. Another year of global political theatre that has most certainly effected many but arguably changed a whole lot less.
In the spirit of the above, the image depicts the House Of Commons and the representative M.P.s as grown babies each carrying out their own comical yet sordid activities. There’s so much going on here that it’s worth having a good long stare! Each character is has it’s own role which shows Ben H’s tenacity as a draughtsman and his ability to create a very strong narrative. There’s even Mr V for Vendetta hiding in amongst the rows. A nod to Ben’s admiration for Alan Moore.
This set is limited to a run of 36 prints split into sets of 12. Each set has a slightly different colored finish.
All will be numbered, signed and dated by the Artist, in a different colored ink. The artist signature is uniquely located on each print and holds the official Beats In My Brush stamp.
