Eric Clapton – DKNG

April 19th, 2013 | Category: Art Prints,Concert Prints

20130419-153018.jpg

We’ve been lucky enough to have the occasional chance to work for some of our true music idols, and in the case of this project, we had the chance to work with a true music icon, Eric Clapton. For his new album, ‘Old Sock’, Clapton designed his own album artwork, mainly consisting of iPhone self-portraits and images of his own backyard. To make the project especially exciting, the album would also mark the first Clapton album to be released by an independent label, San Diego’s very own Surfdog Records. For the album release, we were tasked with illustrating a portrait of Clapton based on his own photo. Portraits are always tricky in terms of how a subject wants to be represented, and in this case, we went through a few variations of the illustration – some depicted Clapton as a young man and some at his current age. He eventually chose to be depicted at his current age because as David Bowie calls him, Clapton has become an ‘Old Sock’.

This poster will not be available for sale through our website as it was used exclusively for promoting the album in independent record stores and as gifts for the production team. However, for a limited time, you can check out the artwork in person at your local Starbucks. The poster is a three color screen print and you can view some close up images of the finished print, our initial sketch along with the album cover the illustration was inspired by on our blog.

Sigur Ros – Aaron Horkey

April 19th, 2013 | Category: Art Prints,Concert Prints

20130419-082823.jpg

Posters and toys will be selling another new print by Aaron Horkey later today. His Sigur Ros poster is an 11″ x 39″ screenprint, has an edition of 338 (much, much less online), and will cost $65.

To help newcomers, I’ve made a list of sale tips:
-Make sure you create an account on the site first.
-Use the two digit abbreviation for your state, DO NOT fill out the name in full.
-Use the same address for your billing, shipping, and Paypal addresses (even if you’re shipping somewhere else, just email about it after the sale)
-The print is not yours until you complete checkout. The print is not saved in inventory when you add it to your cart.
-Because of volume, oversells are possible.
-Lastly, and most importantly, I didn’t choose the run size on this, so if you miss out, please do not direct any rude words toward me. I’d be more than happy to sell you one if I had more.

Jack White 2012 Poster Set – Art By Rob Jones

April 04th, 2013 | Category: Concert Prints

jack_white_set

The great Rob Jones is offering up sets of his Jack White posters.  This will be available for purchase on Thursday April 11th at 11 AM Central Time. Sets will include all 22 posters Rob designed from the Blunderbuss tour plus 1 copy of a new edition of the Red Rocks poster exclusive to the set. During the tour, a printing error resulted in the horizontal compression of the original image so that instead of being 18 X 24 it came out roughly 17 X 24.  Therefore Rob decided to have it reprinted at the correct dimensions in it’s own edition, but he is including the original version sold at the shows so set holders will have them both.  This version will not be sold outside the set.

Sets will be shipped in one flat pack for all 18 X 24 inch sized posters and 1 tube for the five larger posters. The posters in the flat pack portion are wrapped in a mylar sleeve which is wrapped in kraft paper which is wrapped in a corrugated cardboard mailer box which is wrapped in another slightly larger corrugated cardboard mailer box.  A random extra surprise will be included in each set. Maybe a Tin Man & Tin Dorothy mini print, maybe an original sketch of Feyd Rautha drinking a milkshake, maybe a horrible poem Rob wrote to a high school girlfriend, or something else entirely.  When the time is right head over to Animal Rummy to claim yourself a set.

Pearl Jam – Lollapalooza 2013 Sao Paulo – Concert Print By Brad Klausen

April 01st, 2013 | Category: Concert Prints

2013_PEARL_JAM_SAO_PAULO_LARGE PJ_SA_BACK

Pearl Jam is back at it and so is Brad Klausen.  This piece was done for the 2013 Lollapalooza in Sao Paulo.  Each piece measures 13.5 x 25 inches and is a signed/numbered out of an edition of 200.  Brad used five colors on this one.  These go onsale this morning, April at 10am (PST) at Artillery Design.

For this round of posters they asked if the artists would write out the story behind the concept of the design and print it on the back of the poster. What you see above is what is printed on the back of the poster. If my writing is a little illegible in the jpeg above, it says:

The city so vast,
the achievement quite grand.
A towering testament,
to the ambition of man.

In the shadows of giants,
we work, live and play.
Yet despite our success,
we’ve drifted astray.

Alive in the city,
once can lose sight,..
of the nature of living,
the nature of light.

We’re children of nature,
lest we forget…
To the sun in the sky
we’re forever in debt.

We all have the power,
deep down within…
to raise up our light,
it starts with a spin.

Bradley W. Klausen
2013

When I was assigned the poster for a show in Sao Paulo, I did what I
normally do which is see if there’s any thing about the city that
stands out to me, be it a history, a vibe, a folklore. When you look at
images of Sao Paulo, it’s a massive city that seems to go on forever.

And while Sao Paulo is a successful global city of business and
industry, it just made me think about a girl living in the city who
wanted to rise up above the towering skyscrapers and reconnect
with nature. To remember that there is more to this life then just
the fast pace of modern living. More to life then just buildings of
concrete and steel, streets of cars and buses, of people plugged into
smart phones and the internet and their careers.

Nature and the universe is built upon the energy of spinning and spiraling.
Galaxies, planets, atoms, dna, from the macrocosm to the microcosm it
all spins and spirals. As above, so below.

There is an electric energy inside of each human body that spirals up
from the base of the spine and can travel up to the brain if one so
desires. And it is through this spiraling energy in the body that humans
have the capacity to tap into our true potential and see the light within.
